Mel's info is right on target. Here'some info I wrote for my website a couple of weeks ago on SARS.

I wrote this in response who came in to our clinic about a few days after the outbreak came out. She came in with a low grade fever and a cough and a runny nose. She had done no traveling outside the US, but was almost sure she had SARS. The reason? When she was riding on the bus the day before, she sat next to a guy who she swore was Japanese! And so the hysteria continues...
